🏗️ The Executive Summary

White Widow is the most famous strain of the 1990s. If you walked into an Amsterdam Coffee Shop between 1995 and 2005, this was the most expensive item on the menu.

Bred by Shantibaba (Scott Blakey) during his time at Green House Seed Co., it was created by crossing a pure Brazilian Sativa landrace with a resin-heavy South Indian Indica father found in the mountains of Kerala. The result was a plant that produced so much resin that it looked like it had been dipped in sugar—hence the name "White" Widow.

Why Grow It? You grow White Widow for the Resin and the Conversation. It is a legendary hash-making strain. Unlike modern poly-hybrids that rely on complex fruit terpenes, White Widow relies on raw power. It has a distinct floral, woody, and slightly spicy ammonia smell. The high is famous for being "social"—energetic and talkative, followed by a gentle physical relaxation.

🌱 The Vegetative Phase (Weeks 1–4)

Week 1 (Establishment): White Widow is robust. Seedlings are squat and healthy. The leaves are a dark, forest green (Indica influence) and very broad.
Week 2 (Bushiness): This plant does not like to stretch in veg. It grows incredibly bushy with tight internodal spacing. It looks like a cabbage.
Week 3 (Training): We top the main stem to encourage side branching. Because the plant is so dense, we must perform aggressive defoliation even in veg. We remove large fan leaves blocking the inner nodes to prevent micro-climates that could invite powdery mildew.
Week 4 (The Flip): The plants are compact "balls" of foliage. We install a trellis net not so much for support (the stems are thick and sturdy) but to spread the canopy wide. We flip to 12/12.

🌸 The Flowering Phase (Weeks 1–9)

Week 1 (Stretch): The stretch is minimal compared to Super Silver Haze. It maybe grows 50% taller. It focuses almost all energy on flower production immediately.
Week 2 (Pistils): Flowering is fast. White pistils cover the plant.
Week 3 (The Frost): This is the moment of truth. By week 3, the sugar leaves are already glistening. The trichome heads are noticeably large.
Week 4 (Aroma): The smell is subtle at first—earthy and piney. It is not a "loud" strain like Sour Diesel, making it decent for stealth.
Week 5 (Structure): The buds are dense and chunky, shaped like spades. They are not huge, but they are heavy.
Week 6 (The "White"): The resin coverage becomes absurd. It creeps out onto the fan leaves. We drop the temperature slightly to preserve the volatile terpenes.
Week 7 (Hardening): The aroma turns sharper—spicy cedar wood and floral ammonia. The buds are rock hard.
Week 8 (The Fade): White Widow tends to stay green longer than other strains, but eventually, the leaves fade to yellow. We flush with pure water.
Week 9 (Harvest): We check trichomes. We are looking for milky white heads to match the name. We chop at day 60–63.

⚖️ The Harvest Report

Wet Weight: The buds are incredibly dense. They feel like stones.
Dry Weight: The 4 plants yielded 1.6 lbs (approx 725g). While not a "Cash Cropper" yield like Big Bud, the quality-to-weight ratio is elite.
Bag Appeal: 10/10 Classic. The buds are so white they look pale grey/green. The orange hairs are short and stark against the frost. It looks like "Old School Fire."

She is arguably the most reliable hybrid ever made. She is tough enough for a beginner to abuse, but resinous enough to win cups. If you want to experience the history of cannabis breeding—the strain that bridged the gap between landraces and modern hybrids—you must grow White Widow at least once.
