Breeder: Dutch Passion

Difficulty: Low (Designed for harsh outdoor climates)
Yield Potential: High (250g–750g per plant outdoors)
🌲 The Executive Summary
Passion #1 is the Outdoor King of the Northern Hemisphere. Originally known as Amstel Gold in the 1980s, this strain was developed specifically to solve one problem: growing high-quality weed in cold, wet climates (like the Netherlands or the UK).
While most "Cali" strains rot the moment autumn rain hits, Passion #1 thrives. It is a pure California Indica that has been acclimatized to Northern Europe for decades. It is not designed for indoor tents (though it can be grown there); its true home is the garden, the greenhouse, or the guerilla patch. It grows tall, finishes incredibly fast, and produces buds that are surprisingly potent (often hitting 20% THC) for an outdoor variety.
Why Grow It? You grow Passion #1 if you are an Outdoor Grower in a non-tropical climate. If you live in Canada, the UK, Germany, or the Northern US, this is your safety net. It delivers a heavy, narcotic stone and massive trees that can reach 3 meters (10 feet) if planted early.
🚜 The Grow Journal
Setup:
Environment: Outdoor Garden (Simulated Latitude: 50°N - e.g., Vancouver/London).
Lighting: The Sun.
Medium: 25 Gallon Fabric Pots (Living Soil / Compost Blend).
Count: 4 Plants.
Training: Topping (Early) & Staking (Late).
🌱 The Vegetative Phase (May – July)
May (Planting): We start seeds indoors to protect them from late frost, then move them outside in late May. The seedlings are incredibly vigorous.
June (Explosion): Once the roots hit the 25-gallon soil volume, the growth is explosive. The leaves are huge, broad, and dark green (pure Indica).
July (The Giant): By mid-July, the plants are 5 feet tall. We top them once to encourage bushiness, but Passion #1 naturally wants to be a Christmas tree. We add bamboo stakes now because we know the wind can be an issue later.
🌸 The Flowering Phase (August – September)
Early August (Transition): Unlike indoor grows controlled by a timer, Passion #1 senses the shortening days early. Pre-flowers appear in the first week of August.
Mid-August (Bloom): Flowering sets in hard. The plant stretches, often reaching 7–8 feet. We check for pests (caterpillars are the main enemy outdoors), but the plant's natural resin seems to deter many insects.
Early September (The Race): The weather turns cooler. Passion #1 doesn't care. The buds swell rapidly. They are long and leafy (a trait of outdoor Indicas to shed water).
Mid-September (Resin): The smell is pungent—citrus, earth, and spicy hash. The resin is thick and sticky, acting as a raincoat against the morning dew.
Late September (Harvest Window): While Haze strains are still weeks away, Passion #1 is finishing. The pistils turn orange. The trichomes are milky.
Harvest (Oct 1st): We chop before the heavy October freezes/rains set in. This timing is the strain's greatest asset.
⚖️ The Harvest Report
Wet Weight: Immense. Carrying these branches feels like carrying firewood.
Dry Weight: The 4 outdoor plants yielded 3.5 lbs (approx 1,600g) combined.
Bag Appeal: 7/10. It looks like outdoor weed—slightly leafier and darker than indoor hydro. But the frost is real, and the nuggets are dense enough to command respect.
🏁 The Architect's Verdict
Passion #1 is the Survivor.
It is the best insurance policy an outdoor grower can have. It sacrifices a little bit of "bag appeal" (it's leafy) for absolute reliability and potency. It hits hard with a classic "stoned" effect that is perfect for cold winter nights.
Score: 9.2/10 (Outdoor Utility Category) Best For: Outdoor growers in Northern latitudes, Guerilla growers, and Indica lovers.
