Moby Dick Seed Review
Seed Review: Moby Dick
Genetics: Haze x White Widow Breeder: Dinafem (Original) / Silent Seeds / Green House Seed Co. Type: 75% Sativa / 25% Indica Flowering Time: 9–10 Weeks Difficulty: Moderate to High (Size management is critical) Yield Potential: Leviathan (650g–1500g/m² with expert training)
🏗️ The Executive Summary
Moby Dick is the apex predator of the Sativa ocean. Originally bred by the Spanish masters at Dinafem (now legacy preserved by Silent Seeds), this strain was created to solve a specific problem: Sativas yield low and take too long.
By crossing a pure Haze with the resin-heavy White Widow, they created a monster. Moby Dick retains the psychedelic, soaring high of the Haze but gains the density and production speed of the Widow. The result is a plant that grows terrifyingly fast, eats nutrients like a competitive eater, and produces colas the size of a human forearm.
Why Grow It? You grow Moby Dick when you have height and you want power. This is not a strain for a micro-grow cabinet. It requires space to stretch. In return, it delivers one of the most unique terpene profiles in existence: a mix of church incense, vanilla, and old-school citrus Haze.
🚜 The Simulated Grow Journal
Setup:
Environment: 5x5 Gorilla Grow Tent (Height extension recommended if available).
Lighting: 650W High-Efficiency LED (Spectrum leaned toward blue in veg to reduce stretch).
Medium: 10 Gallon Smart Pots (Coco/Perlite Mix for heavy feeding).
Count: 4 Plants.
Training: Aggressive Topping & Dual-Layer SCROG.
🌱 The Vegetative Phase (Weeks 1–4)
Week 1 (Explosion): Unlike the slow-starting Big Bud, Moby Dick explodes out of the shell. It is visibly larger than other seedlings by day 7.
Week 2 (The Hunger): We start feeding early. Moby Dick is a known Magnesium hog. We double the CalMag dose immediately. The leaves are slender (Sativa) but serrated and dark.
Week 3 (Topping): Topping is mandatory. We top at the 4th node. If we don't, this plant will hit the grow light glass.
Week 4 (The Flip): We flip to 12/12 early (Day 28). Warning: Do not veg Moby Dick for 8 weeks in a tent unless you want to cut a hole in your ceiling. It will stretch 200–300%.
🌸 The Flowering Phase (Weeks 1–10)
Week 1 (The Stretch): The plants grow 2 inches per day. We weave them through the first trellis net aggressively, bending branches horizontally to fill the corners.
Week 2 (Feeding Ramp): We push EC (Electrical Conductivity) to 2.8 or 3.0. This plant rarely burns. It consumes Nitrogen later into flower than most strains.
Week 3 (Structure): The stretch finally slows. The canopy is 4 feet tall even with training.
Week 4 (Aroma): A distinct smell of eucalyptus and menthol fills the room. It smells "cold" and metallic compared to the fruitiness of modern strains.
Week 5 (Stacking): The Haze genetics shine here. The buds are not golf balls; they are long, running spears (foxtails are common).
Week 6 (The White): The White Widow parentage kicks in. Resin production coats the long fan leaves. This is great for hash making later.
Week 7 (Bulk): The colas are thickening. We add a second trellis net to support the leaning towers.
Week 8 (THCV): Moby Dick is known to produce THCV (Tetrahydrocannabivarin), a cannabinoid that suppresses appetite and adds a "racy" edge to the high. The smell shifts to spicy pine and vanilla.
Week 9 (Ripening): We watch trichomes. Sativas can be tricky; they keep throwing white pistils even when ripe. We look for cloudy heads.
Week 10 (Harvest): The high energy requires patience. We chop at day 70.
⚖️ The Harvest Report
Wet Weight: The biomass is immense. The "running" Sativa structure means less density than Critical Mass, but more overall volume.
Dry Weight: The 4 plants yielded 2.4 lbs (approx 1,100g).
Bag Appeal: Long, silver-green spears that smell like a Catholic church (incense and wood). Not the "purple cookie" look, but a classic "Exotic Sativa" aesthetic.
🏁 The Architect's Verdict
Moby Dick is the Titan.
It commands respect. It requires a grower who is not afraid to feed heavy and train hard. If you treat it gently, it will take over your room. But if you tame the whale, you are rewarded with a stash of "get-stuff-done" weed that cuts through any tolerance.
Score: 9.2/10 (Potency + Vigor) Best For: High-tolerance smokers, commercial growers with high ceilings, and Haze fanatics.
