Jack Herer is not just a strain; it is an institution. Created in the Netherlands in the mid-1990s by Sensi Seeds, it was named after the legendary author of The Emperor Wears No Clothes, the man who launched the modern hemp legalization movement.
The breeding goal was ambitious: to capture the cerebral elevation of a tropical Haze but shorten the flowering time and increase the density using Northern Lights and Shiva Skunk. The result is a strain that is often recognized by Dutch pharmacies as "medical-grade" cannabis. It is famous for producing four distinct phenotypes—three are tall and Sativa-leaning, and one is short and Indica-leaning. All of them share a signature aroma: peppery, spicy, piney, and sharp.

Training: Topping & LST (Low Stress Training).
🌱 The Vegetative Phase (Weeks 1–4)
Week 1 (Establishment): The seeds pop with vigor. By day 10, we can already see differences. Two plants are growing taller and thinner (Sativa pheno), while one is noticeably shorter and fatter (Indica pheno).
Week 2 (Structure): The Sativa phenos have wide internodal spacing. The Indica pheno is a cabbage. We have to adjust light height to accommodate the uneven canopy.
Week 3 (Training): We top all plants. For the taller Sativa phenos, we top twice to slow them down. For the Indica pheno, we top once and focus on leaf tucking.
Week 4 (The Flip): The canopy is uneven, so we use super-cropping (pinching stems) on the tall girls to level them out with the short girl. We flip to 12/12.
🌸 The Flowering Phase (Weeks 1–10)
Week 1 (The Stretch): The Sativa phenos stretch 150%. The Indica pheno stretches 50%. We use risers (milk crates) under the short plant to keep its canopy level with the others.
Week 2 (Pistils): Flowering begins. The pistils are thick and robust.
Week 3 (Aroma): A classic, old-school scent fills the tent. It smells like a pine forest and cracked black pepper. There is zero fruitiness here—it is pure spice and earth.
Week 4 (Resin): This is where Jack shines. The resin production is immense. The trichomes are large and cover not just the buds but the fan leaves (making it excellent for hash).
Week 5 (Feeding): Jack Herer is a moderate feeder. It doesn't need the extreme EC levels of a modern GMO cross. We keep it balanced.
Week 6 (Differentiation): The Indica pheno is stacking chunky, round buds. The Sativa phenos are forming long, running colas that spiral around the stem.
Week 7 (The Haze): The smell becomes sharper on the Sativa phenos—almost metallic/citrus. The Indica pheno smells earthier.
Week 8 (Ripening): The Indica pheno looks ready. Pistils are orange, trichomes are cloudy. We begin flushing this one.
Week 9 (Staggered Harvest): We harvest the Indica pheno at day 60. The Sativa phenos are still pushing white pistils and need another 10 days.
Week 10 (Final Harvest): The Sativa phenos finish at day 70. They are massive, leaning over under their own weight.
