Gelonade Seed Review

Genetics: Lemon Tree x Gelato #41 Breeder: Connected Cannabis Co. / T.H. Seeds (Seed version) Type: Sativa Dominant Hybrid (60% Sativa / 40% Indica) Flowering Time: 8–9 Weeks Difficulty: Moderate (Vigorous growth, requires support) Yield Potential: High (550g–600g/m²)

🍋 The Executive Summary

Gelonade is widely considered one of the best tasting strains of the modern era. Created by the California titans Connected Cannabis Co., it shot to superstardom after winning the prestigious Emerald Cup for Best Indoor Flower.

The genius of Gelonade lies in its parentage. It takes the sharp, acidic, furniture-polish funk of Lemon Tree (a Santa Cruz classic) and smooths it out with the creamy, dessert-gas profile of Gelato #41 (Bacio Gelato). The result is a smoke that tastes like a lemon Italian ice—sweet, sour, and refreshing—without the harshness often associated with heavy citrus strains. Unlike many "exotics" that look great but smoke weak, Gelonade packs a potent, uplifting Sativa punch that is perfect for creative work.

Why Grow It? You grow Gelonade if you want Cup-Winning Flavor without sacrificing Yield. Unlike the finicky Zkittlez, Gelonade is a grower's plant. It grows big, yields heavy, and produces buds that are so frosty they look like they’ve been rolled in diamond dust.

🚜 The Grow Journal

Setup:

  • Environment: 5x5 Gorilla Grow Tent.

  • Lighting: 650W High-Efficiency LED (Full Spectrum).

  • Medium: 10 Gallon Smart Pots (Coco/Perlite Mix).

  • Count: 4 Plants.

  • Training: Topping & SCROG (Screen of Green).

🌱 The Vegetative Phase (Weeks 1–4)

  • Week 1 (Vigor): Gelonade is a fast starter. The Lemon Tree genetics bring serious vigor. Seedlings establish roots quickly and shoot up.

  • Week 2 (Structure): The plant grows tall and open (Sativa influence). The internodal spacing is wider than a pure Gelato, allowing for better light penetration.

  • Week 3 (Training): We top at the 5th node. This is crucial. Without topping, Gelonade will send a main spire straight into the lights. We want a bush.

  • Week 4 (The Flip): The plants are remarkably healthy. The stems are thick and sturdy (Gelato #41 influence). We install a trellis net at 20 inches and flip to 12/12.

🌸 The Flowering Phase (Weeks 1–9)

  • Week 1 (The Stretch): The stretch is significant—expect a 100% increase in height. We weave the branches through the net daily to keep the canopy flat.

  • Week 2 (Pistils): Flowering begins. The plant is a heavy drinker/feeder. We ensure Calcium and Magnesium levels are high to support the rapid growth.

  • Week 3 (Aroma): The scent is immediate. It smells like cutting into a fresh lemon. It is sharp and acidic.

  • Week 4 (Resin): The Gelato frost arrives. The trichomes are large and oily. The contrast between the bright green buds and the white resin is striking.

  • Week 5 (Structure): The buds are stacking in large, chunky clusters. They are not as dense as a pure Indica, but they are far from airy. They have a "spiky" appearance.

  • Week 6 (The Shift): The aroma evolves. The sharp lemon settles down, and the creamy, doughy vanilla notes of the Gelato start to mix in. It smells like lemon meringue pie.

  • Week 7 (Feeding): We push the EC to 2.3. Gelonade can handle a heavy feed. We boost PK to maximize bud swelling.

  • Week 8 (The Fade): Depending on the phenotype, you may see pink or purple hues on the tips of the sugar leaves, but the buds generally stay a vibrant, neon green.

  • Week 9 (Harvest): We check trichomes. We want a mix of cloudy and amber to balance the racy Sativa head high. We chop at day 63–65.

⚖️ The Harvest Report

  • Wet Weight: The plants are heavy. The open structure made trimming easy as there wasn't much "popcorn" bud in the lower canopy.

  • Dry Weight: The 4 plants yielded 1.9 lbs (approx 860g).

  • Bag Appeal: 10/10. The buds are bright, loud, and covered in trichomes. The smell is the real winner—cracking a jar fills the room with sweet citrus gas.

🏁 The Architect's Verdict

Gelonade is the Flavor King.

It is rare to find a strain that balances "hype" flavor with "commercial" yield this well. It is an absolute joy to grow and even better to smoke. If you are tired of earthy/gassy OGs and want something bright and uplifting, this is the one.

Score: 9.7/10 (Flavor + Yield) Best For: Flavor chasers, Sativa lovers, and growers who want top-shelf exotic results with reliable growth.
