Big Bomb Seed Review
Seed Review: Big Bomb
Genetics: Big Bud x Bomb #1 Breeder: Bomb Seeds Type: 80% Indica / 20% Sativa Flowering Time: 8–10 Weeks Difficulty: Low (Very hardy, but requires physical support) Yield Potential: Nuclear (700g–850g/m²)
🏗️ The Executive Summary
Big Bomb is exactly what it claims to be: an explosive yield machine. Bred by the Dutch commercial specialists at Bomb Seeds, this strain was created by crossing the legendary Big Bud with their proprietary Bomb #1 male (a highly vigorous, robust Afghani lineage).
The goal was simple: take the already massive yield of Big Bud and inject it with even more vigor and potency. While Big Bud can sometimes be a bit "soft" or "fluffy," the Bomb #1 genetics add density and a faster vegetative growth rate. Big Bomb is designed for the cash-cropper who measures success in kilograms, not grams. It is not the most complex flavor profile on earth—usually a classic skunky earth—but for pure biomass production, few strains can touch it.
Why Grow It? You grow Big Bomb when you need to fill the pantry quickly. It is arguably the highest-yielding strain in the "Bomb" collection. It stays relatively short but grows incredibly wide and heavy, making it perfect for maximizing square footage in limited-height environments.
🚜 The Grow Journal
Setup:
Environment: 5x5 Gorilla Grow Tent.
Lighting: 650W High-Efficiency LED (Full Spectrum).
Medium: 10 Gallon Smart Pots (Coco/Perlite Mix for maximum feed uptake).
Count: 4 Plants.
Training: Heavy Topping & SCROG (Screen of Green) - Support is mandatory.
🌱 The Vegetative Phase (Weeks 1–4)
Week 1 (Ignition): Germination is reliable. The seedlings are thick-stemmed from day one. They don't stretch; they squat.
Week 2 (Structure): The Indica dominance is clear. Huge, dark green fan leaves that look like solar panels. The internodal spacing is tight (less than 1 inch).
Week 3 (Training): We top aggressively at the 4th node. Because Big Bomb naturally wants to grow one giant central cola, we have to force it to spread out. We do heavy "leaf tucking" to expose the lower bud sites.
Week 4 (The Flip): The plants are dense bushes. We install a sturdy PVC trellis net at 18 inches. We flip to 12/12. Note: You must defoliate the bottom 30% of the plant now. The foliage is so thick that mold will be a risk if airflow isn't prioritized.
🌸 The Flowering Phase (Weeks 1–9)
Week 1 (Transition): Stretch is moderate (about 50%). It focuses energy on branch thickness rather than height.
Week 2 (Pistils): Flowering onset is standard. White pistils emerge. The plant looks like a sturdy hedge.
Week 3 (Bud Set): The colas begin to form. They are noticeably thicker than other strains at this stage.
Week 4 (Aroma): A classic "Old School" smell develops—skunk, pepper, and damp soil. It is not fruity or sweet; it smells like "weed."
Week 5 (The Swell): This is where Big Bomb earns its name. The buds swell dramatically. We increase PK (Phosphorus/Potassium) boosters.
Week 6 (Structural Integrity): CRITICAL ALERT. The buds are getting so heavy that the branches are bending horizontally. We add a second trellis net and use zip ties to hold the heaviest colas upright. Without support, they will snap.
Week 7 (Defoliation 2): We strip more fan leaves. The buds are so large they are shading each other. We need light to hit the lowers to prevent "larf."
Week 8 (Ripening): The buds are massive, rounded, and rock hard. They look like green softballs. Trichome coverage is decent, though not "white out" level.
Week 9 (Harvest): We push it to day 63-65 to ensure maximum density. We chop.
⚖️ The Harvest Report
Wet Weight: Absurdly heavy. The water retention in the dense buds is high.
Dry Weight: The 4 plants yielded 2.8 lbs (approx 1,270g). This is one of the highest yields in this entire review series.
Bag Appeal: The buds are huge and chunky. They lack the exotic colors of a Runtz or Gelato, but they have a classic, impressive "Commercial Skunk" look.
🏁 The Architect's Verdict
Big Bomb is the Heavy Industry.
It is a strain for the pragmatist. It delivers exactly what it promises: massive piles of bud. It is perfect for commercial operators or home growers who want to turn one cycle into a year's supply of reliable, stony Indica. It lacks the nuance of a boutique strain, but it makes up for it in sheer volume.
Score: 8.8/10 (Yield Category) Best For: Commercial growers, Hash makers (biomass), and lovers of classic Skunk/Afghan profiles.
